Sweeping 4K/UHD movies and ultra-high-speed Full HD video

The KeyMission 170 supports 4K/UHD³ video recording at 25/30 fps, and ultra-high-speed Full HD (1080) video recording at 120 fps, which allows for dramatic slow motion footage. It’s possible to capture high-quality stills whilst filming, and Nikon’s acclaimed electronic Vibration Reduction (e-VR) minimises the effect of camera shake for blur-free still and moving images. A wind noise reduction function allows you to reduce the sound that is produced when wind passes over the camera’s built-in stereo microphone during movie recording.

Dive into beauty: waterproof to 10 m without housing, and to 40 m with optional housing

With the KeyMission 170, you can dive into the jewelled beauty of a coral reef and capture striking images of the wonders around you. The camera is capable of descending to depths of 10 m² without housing, and can reach an impressive 40 m when you dive with the optional Waterproof Case WP-AA1 attached⁴. Fit the supplied underwater lens protector during shallow dives to keep submarine grit away from the lens and enable sharply focused underwater footage. When you use the waterproof housing, the camera is still small and light enough to handle easily. Plus this case features an additional battery compartment for a second battery. The battery in the camera and the battery in the case work sequentially: when one runs out, the other takes over. Why stop the dive just because you need a fresh battery?

Ready for action: simple operation and shockproof, freezeproof, dustproof

The KeyMission 170 can handle the elements. The dustproof⁵ camera body is solid, lightweight, and shockproof from heights of up to 2 m¹. A protective outer shell ensures reliable operation even when the temperature is as low as -10° C⁶. Both the shutter-release and video record buttons are easily accessible on the top of the camera. The 1.5 in, 340k-dot LCD monitor makes it simple to confirm camera settings, check compositions, or review images. And the supplied ML-L6 Bluetooth®⁷ remote makes it easy to control the camera when it’s attached to a compatible mount: you can even operate this remote when wearing gloves. Whether you’re on the upper slopes of a mountain in sub-zero temperatures or travelling the Inca trail, you’ll get breathtaking results.

The ultimate sidekick: different mounts for different missions

Supported by a range of mounts, clips, and rods, the KeyMission 170 lets you keep your hands free wherever you venture. Nikon’s accessory mounts securely attach the camera to helmets, wrist straps, and even vehicles. Use the Vented Helmet Strap Mount AA-5 to get a skydiver’s-eye view of the earth, or a climber’s view of the summit. Go deep inside the barrel of a wave with the Surfboard Mount AA-9. Two supplied lens protectors, one for land and one for underwater use, keep the camera’s lens free from dust and shield it from flying grit. Wherever you go, the supplied, interchangeable EN-EL12 Li-ion battery will keep you shooting for extended periods of time, and additional back-up units may be purchased. And the camera accepts micro SD/SDHC/SDXC memory cards.

Get inside your world: movie shooting modes

Versatile functions make it easy to shoot movies that take your audience into the heart of your missions. You can switch to and from recording footage in dramatic slow motion at any point during filming. Simply press a button and the camera will start/stop recording in Full HD (1080) at 120 fps. To relive the best of a big trip, use Superlapse movie. This clever function records long-duration videos for rapid playback, enabling a central subject to be placed in quickly changing scenes and settings. Use the Loop Recording function to record multiple films for preset periods of time. Create a 170° time-lapse video as you suit up, paddle out, and drop in at a new secret spot. Insert Highlight Tag lets you tag favourite video sections, so you can search for your mission’s best moments during playback or quickly create a highlight reel.

Share your missions: SnapBridge 360/170 and KeyMission Utility

The camera is Bluetooth®⁷ enabled, and fully compatible with Nikon’s SnapBridge 360/170 app and KeyMission 360/170 Utility⁸. Utilising Bluetooth®⁷ low energy technology, Nikon’s SnapBridge 360/170 app⁸ maintains a constant, low-power connection between the camera and your smartphone or tablet. Connecting the two devices is an easy, one-time operation. Once it’s done, you can sync photos to your smart device as you shoot, and share your stories in an instant. You can also stream 170° live view through your smartphone or tablet screen, before you begin to record, and playback your movies as a live stream. The SnapBridge 360/170 app⁸ also makes it easy to tag your images with positional information including latitude, longitude, and altitude. Beyond your smart devices, the footage can also be viewed and edited on a computer on which Nikon’s KeyMission 360/170 Utility⁸ is installed.
