We repeat that test to bin full 100s of times consecutively, amounting to 10 years’ worth of test dust, to ensure vacuums containing Dyson Cinetic™ science maintain constant suction.

DC49 is Dyson’s smallest vacuum. But it’s powered by the Dyson digital motor V4, so it performs like a full-size machine.

The only cylinder vacuum with a Dyson digital motor

Seven years in development, the Dyson digital motor V4 is one of the world’s smallest fully integrated 1150 W motors. By integrating its mechanical, electrical and aerodynamic systems, Dyson engineers have created an efficient, power-dense package with a diameter of just 85 mm. It’s why DC49 has the performance of a full-size machine, yet it can sit on an A4 sheet of paper.

Removes dirt and dust from all floor types

The latest turbine head has stiff nylon bristles for removing ground-in dirt from carpets, and soft carbon fibre filaments for gently removing fine dust from hard floors.

The brush bars of most vacuums only contain nylon bristles. While these loosen dirt from carpets, they’re less effective on hard floors, where fine dust can be left behind. Dyson brush bars are different. They have a row of anti-static carbon fibre filaments, as well as nylon bristles. The filaments prevent the build up of the static charge that holds dust to the floor, allowing it to be sucked up into the vacuum.

Built around a ball – light to pull, follows obediently

DC49 follows you effortlessly around the home, without the awkward moves.

Ball™ technology – low centre of gravity and central steering

All of the vacuum's key components are housed within the ball itself, including the electronics, the motor, the pre-motor filter and up to 6.5 m of power cable. This creates a low centre of gravity and provides stability. Dyson Ball™ cylinder vacuums are also the only cylinder machines to have a central steering mechanism, so they follow you accurately as you pull them along.

Captures more microscopic dust than any other cyclone

Dyson cyclones are more efficient than others – more dust and dirt is flung out of the airflow and into the bin.

Radial Root Cyclone™ technology

By arranging the inner cyclones in a radial formation, airflow can be channelled directly through the centre of the cyclone assembly once it has passed through both stages of separation. This improves flow efficiency, preserving air pressure and maximising suction. It also allows refinement of the inner cyclones – to capture more microscopic dust. When designing DC49, engineers made iterative changes to the cyclones – reducing noise levels and improving sound quality within the assembly.

Noise levels have been reduced and sound quality has been improved – throughout the machine and floor tool.

Acoustic engineering

Acoustics were at the heart of the Dyson design process for DC49. Improvements have been made to the DC49 ball, cyclones and floor tool to reduce noise levels and improve sound quality. The small size and power density of the Dyson digital motor V4 made these changes possible.
